The Mongolia 2010 Expedition

Mongolia is quite a fascinating place for an expedition and this is what the Mongolia 2010 expedition is all about. This is an expedition that Ripley Davenport is going to embark on and a lot of adventure travel enthusiasts are waiting on the wings to cheer him on and also have him take up this expedition which promises to be quite something to cheer and also write home about. Ripley is currently in the process of getting his preparations ready and in place for the inimitable Mongolia 2010. These details are quite consuming as well as painstaking as they have to get everything ready such that all aspects of the expedition come up just perfect.

The Mongolia 2010 is a huge trip that covers more than 1700 miles and it starts up from the Eastern Mongolian Steppe, and then he gets into and crosses the quite desolate Gobi Desert. After this, the trip means that he would have to go through the Altai Mountain Range which is no small feat. All of this means that he has to get ready with all the preparations. The trip is monumental and quite grueling which needs load of planning and execution.

Steve House is Evacuated after falling 80 ft

There are some times when climbing expeditions can go horribly wrong and even endanger the lives of expert climbers. This has happened in the case of Steve House who has fallen more than 80 feet in the Canadian Rockies and is now inside a hospital because of life threatening and traumatic injuries. Steve House happens to be one of the most accomplished as well as acclaimed alpine climbers and this is quite an unfortunate happening. Global rescue was the agency that was pressed into service in order to evacuate Steve House and then taken from Calgary to Oregon for treatment.

Steve House is well known in mountain climbing circles. He happens to be the ambassador for Patagonia clothing and has been a climber who has scaled some of the highest peaks around the globe. He was trying to scale the Mt. Temple which is located within the Banff National Park when the accident occurred. Steve House has been acclaimed by some as being the best high altitude climber in the world these days. After his fall he was taken to a medical facility in Calgary, but since he needed greater attention, Global rescue shifted him aboard a medical plane to Oregon.

If you are a fan of the series you can look it up between the 12th of April and 26th April to get a free download of the version.  This has been named ‘Pole to Pole’ and offers quite a bit of action of the conservation variety.

If you want to commemorate Earth Day you can buy the whole series for $2.99 each and make a wonderful collection of wonderful set of videos that have 2,000 hours of man hours embedded in them leading to lots of wonderful footage and a lot of great effects on screen. You can get it on BluRay and also for your iPad which means that there are a lot of media on which it is available and all so easily too. So you do not have to go to any stores to really pick it up.

Bad conditions on the Catlin Arctic Survey

There are 2 teams that are on the Catlin Arctic Survey and the 2 teams are certainly facing a lot of problems as they try to navigate through the bad weather conditions that prevail in the terrain there. The explorers are going northward and this despite the fact that the ice conditions are indeed some of the worst that they have ever encountered there. The explorers want to make their way to the North Pole and while they are it, to take samples of the arctic ice. The ice conditions and consistency is changing all the time, which is something that can indeed endanger their lives and put them at a serious risk. The wind also does not make the situation any better as they battle the onslaught of the elements, day and night on this adventure.

There was one day early in the morning when they say the ice crackle all around them and there was a huge bang after which the ice just broke. They had to quickly decide which side of the ice crack that they wanted to be on, given the fact that they could not possibly stay where they had moored their tents. This was quite scary, to say the least.

Off in a visit to Nepal

Off in a visit to Nepal

There are some of the places that are absolutely my favorite adventure places in the entire world. Nepal happens to be one of these and I am now off to Nepal for a couple of weeks or so.  There are so many teams up there in the mountains of Nepal and I want to make sure I catch up a bit on all the action so that I am able to come back and recount the stories as well as have all the juicy tidbits for all you my dear readers. I may be off blogging for a couple of weeks, but then when I am back I would have so many more stories to write as well as wonderful pictures to share from my trip to Nepal when all the Himalaya Trail and the Everest 2010 action takes off.

There is one place I am surely going to go and that is the Everest Base Camp or BC as it is well known as. I will also be taking some wonderful new gear to check out there and when I am back, you will be able to see how the gear has fared with all the action going on, on every side.

Teams hit Base Camp in Everest 2010

There are events happening at Everest 2010 every few days and we are keeping a close watch on these. A few days back, some of the teams that had made their way up to the mountain side and its slopes. Now it seems that these teams have reached up to the Base Camp on the South as well as the North sides, i.e. on the Nepal as well as the Tibet sides of the slopes of the majestic mount.  On the Nepalese South side you have the teams of RMI and Peak Freaks, while on the Tibetan side you have the Hungarian team that has reached the Base Camp and would most likely proceed all the way up to the Advanced Base Camp by the end of the week.

The Everest 201o season is bound to kick off at a fast pace now that that Khumbi Icefalls route is open. There will be a lot of teams that will make their way here and they will be setting up their camps, shuttling and checking their gear and also getting used to the altitude as part of the preparations.

Jon Bowermaster and 30 Days of Oceans

Jon Bowermaster is a keen lover of the oceans. It is one thing to love oceans and quite another to have been in most of the oceans of the world in kayaks. He has also been seen to express a profound concern for the state of the oceans and how they are being mauled and pillaged by polluting humans. Jon Bowermaster has never lost a chance to trumpet the cause of the oceans as a key element of our ecology and the fragile environment on which we depend on this planet we call our home. He has been championing this cause for many years now. Now that Earth Day is fast approaching Jon Bowermaster has started what he calls 30 Days of Oceans on his website. The main idea and objective is to create a sense of awareness among people about the treats that our seas face and what we can do as individuals to stop this murder and pillage of our oceans that is all so rampant around the globe.

The 30 Days of Oceans has excerpts from a new book that he has edited. This book has essays from 30 of the top experts on oceans which are contained in Oceans, Threats to the Sea and What You Can Do to Turn the Tide book.

Update on Everest 2010

Everest 2010 is one of the most exciting adventure events that are taking place around the globe at this point in time. There are so many stories that are emerging all the time from Everest 2010. The biggest and the most momentous story at this point in time about Everest 2010 is the fact that 13 year old Jordan Romero is making his way to Kathmandu from the US where he wants to be the youngest ever to reach the Everest summit. While this young chap is so capable and has many feats to his name, it is incredible and less than safe that a guy his age is attempting such an inimitably challenging feat.

As such, Jordan will not be allowed to take a shot at conquering Everest 2010 from the Nepal side as Nepal does not allow anyone below the age of 16 to try to scale Mount Everest. So he may have to get to the Tibetan side, which was creating some hassles as far as China is concerned, but given the fact that Tibet seems to be open for business as a number of climbers are getting there with climbing permits as well as visas. So Jordan may get to take a shot at climbing Everest at the tender age of 13.

How to become an Eco Hero

There are lots of people who are very environmentally and ecologically conscious. These people would leave no stone unturned in their quest to ensure that they do something to preserve the planet and make it a better place for generations to come. Now these people have the chance to become an Eco Hero as a website has come up with a means to help users share their daily environment related experiences and well as assist people in becoming more eco conscious in the best interests of the environment. This is a social or web networking site that is due to be launched soon on the ecology platform.

The Eco Hero site is not only a social networking platform; it is also a game site. You can log in and post your eco friendly deed for the day, which will then be spread via Twitter to all your friends and Twitter followers. This ensures great visibility for your eco efforts and really goes a long way to make you an Eco Hero.  The creators of Eco Hero want to create an iPhone App also that will be geared to this initiative.  Users can vote and post how well they like your eco deed of the day or perhaps trash it. You can also collect points that can reinforce your commitment to the environment.
