How ancient travelers indulged in adventure travel
There are times when modern man feels that he has been able to explore the world only in the past couple of centuries or so. While this may be true to some extent, it is not wholly true, as there are many evidences to prove that ancient travelers also liked to indulge in adventure travel. For instance, there has been a finding off the Grecian coast, in Crete, where researchers have found an ancient axe that implies that ancient man was used to marine expeditions for quite a long distance by sea. These archaeologists were hoping to get simple stone tools that could have been sailing the high seas around 11,000 years ago.
The finding of the axe is significant as it means that what was found in European shores was quite similar to axes that were found in Africa as well as in Central Europe. All of this is indicative of the fact that ancient man was living near the coast as well as sailing off into the Mediterranean tens of thousands of years prior to what was believed. Most of the scientists were quite amazed at this discovery, which has astounded them. You never know what you would discover next, which can turn conventional wisdom right on its head.
