For almost all of the climbers and adventurers travelling to the magnificent and mighty Himalayas, the most common place of departure is Kathmandu. The journey to Kathmandu is far from a short drive. To get here from Nepal the only means of travel is by the horrendous road and it takes more than 2 days of constant travelling to get here. To add insult to injury, there are no motels on the way and the only place you get to sleep is in the car.

When you arrive to Kathmandu, you will not be satisfied with what you find a hot and humid place with mediocre hotels. One of the best of the mediocre hotels is the Manag Hotel, which is a comfortable and serviceable one. The power goes very often and the rooms get quite hot, which goes very often here. The shops in the Thamel district have a good collection of climbing gears and places to eat. It cannot be denied that this is a very interesting place with friendly people. But it’s the mountain that is on every travelers mind and this place is of little interest. They just stay here for a while to rest and replenish and then move on to the experience of their life.

Off in a visit to Nepal

There are some of the places that are absolutely my favorite adventure places in the entire world. Nepal happens to be one of these and I am now off to Nepal for a couple of weeks or so. There are so many teams up there in the mountains of Nepal and I want to make sure I catch up a bit on all the action so that I am able to come back and recount the stories as well as have all the juicy tidbits for all you my dear readers. I may be off blogging for a couple of weeks, but then when I am back I would have so many more stories to write as well as wonderful pictures to share from my trip to Nepal when all the Himalaya Trail and the Everest 2010 action takes off.

There is one place I am surely going to go and that is the Everest Base Camp or BC as it is well known as. I will also be taking some wonderful new gear to check out there and when I am back, you will be able to see how the gear has fared with all the action going on, on every side.

There are events happening at Everest 2010 every few days and we are keeping a close watch on these. A few days back, some of the teams that had made their way up to the mountain side and its slopes. Now it seems that these teams have reached up to the Base Camp on the South as well as the North sides, i.e. on the Nepal as well as the Tibet sides of the slopes of the majestic mount. On the Nepalese South side you have the teams of RMI and Peak Freaks, while on the Tibetan side you have the Hungarian team that has reached the Base Camp and would most likely proceed all the way up to the Advanced Base Camp by the end of the week.

The Everest 201o season is bound to kick off at a fast pace now that that Khumbi Icefalls route is open. There will be a lot of teams that will make their way here and they will be setting up their camps, shuttling and checking their gear and also getting used to the altitude as part of the preparations.

Everest 2010 is one of the most exciting adventure events that are taking place around the globe at this point in time. There are so many stories that are emerging all the time from Everest 2010. The biggest and the most momentous story at this point in time about Everest 2010 is the fact that 13 year old Jordan Romero is making his way to Kathmandu from the US where he wants to be the youngest ever to reach the Everest summit. While this young chap is so capable and has many feats to his name, it is incredible and less than safe that a guy his age is attempting such an inimitably challenging feat.

As such, Jordan will not be allowed to take a shot at conquering Everest 2010 from the Nepal side as Nepal does not allow anyone below the age of 16 to try to scale Mount Everest. So he may have to get to the Tibetan side, which was creating some hassles as far as China is concerned, but given the fact that Tibet seems to be open for business as a number of climbers are getting there with climbing permits as well as visas. So Jordan may get to take a shot at climbing Everest at the tender age of 13.

Now this was something that was just waiting to be attempted. People want to go faster, stronger and higher on everything and why should good old Mount Everest be exempt to the test of human endurance and grit? Chad Kellogg has decided that he wants to attempt a speed ascent of Everest and the target set is to get up on the summit of the highest mountain on our planet in less than 30 hours. If this were not enough, the attempt would be without Sherpas and also with additional oxygen, which is actually quite a double or triple whammy if you may. Some people certainly do not believe in making things easy for themselves as they push themselves to the very limits of human tolerance.

Chad Kellogg wants to attempt this feet from the South Side of the mount and he is currently in Nepal, looking to scout out the route and get himself ready for attempting this daring and supremely challenging attempt. He is likely to spend as many as one and a half months preparing him and could start up his way on this feat only in Mid-may. This has evoked a lot of for and against responses from many people so you can watch out for a lot of partisan views on this.

We have been talking about the inimitable Everest 2010 for quite some weeks now. This is quite understandable given the fact that there is nothing quite like the experience of conquering the Majestic Mount Everest. And when you have someone who is on row for his 20th summit climb, you can imagine the excitements as well as all the lovely expectations that you as well as others who have been waiting for it. Now Apa Sherpa has left his home in Utah to make his way to Everest 2010 which means that the Everest 2010 season officially begins now. We had speculated that this would start in April, but the fact that Apa is on his way to the mountain that he loves to conquer so much is indication that the Everest 2010 season has officially taken off. And this is great news for adventure lovers everywhere.

Apa Sherpa does not want Everest 2010 to be just a matter of personal laurels. This year he is highlighting the cause of education and economic progress of his home country of Nepal, which is one of the poorest countries on the planet. This is what social responsibility along with personal excellence and ambition is all about.

There are a lot of people who debate about and have set opinions on what should be the right age to conquer the great mountain in Everest 2010. While the debate continues, more and more folks continue to attempt and conquer the mountain every year, in a bid to break the record for the youngest and the oldest person to scale Mount Everest. This is quite amazing and also dangerous as you now have kids as young as 13 trying to climb the mountain and set a record. There was Miss Ming Kipa from Nepal who has already scaled the mountain from the Northern or the Tibetan side as Nepal does not allow folks below the age of 16 to attempt a climb from its side of the Mountain.

On the other had, the 76 year old Min Bahadur Sherchan has the record for being the oldest person to have scaled Mount Everest in all its racy challenges and all the obstacles that come along the way. It is now said that Sailendra Kumar Upadhyaya, the former Foreign Minister of the country of Nepal will make a bid on Everest, at the age of 80 to try and break Sherchan’s record.

As far as Himalaya 2010 goes, there are so many teams that are making way and progress quite fast. These teams are determined to get past BC to Camp 1 and also then to camp 2 as soon as possible. There are also some teams that are there in the ground and who would need some more time to start off. After all, once you are in the Himalaya 2010 you need to be absolutely sure that you are ready to take on the many challenges along the expedition way. One of the teams is that of Edurne Pasaban and her tea, which have not only gone fm BC to Camp 1 but now they have set their sights on nothing less than Camp 2.

As for now, Edurne and her team will hike back up to C1 to spend the night there. Once the night is over they will make their way up to Camp 2. Edurne is Spanish and as a climber she has quite a few laurels to her name. All of this means that she would like to quickly dispense with Annapurna and Shisha Pangma peaks to her list to complete her set of peaks that are 8,000 meters and above.

There are times you just marvel at the kind of improvements and advances that have taken place in the world of communications. Indeed, so many folks do not even know that even during Everest 2010 it has become possible to Tweet away to keep folks back at home in the know. This is what Alan Arnette has been able to dive home, as he Tweets away sweetly from Everest 2010. And this is what we are discussing today, that communication modes have got totally transformed over the years. Now you have so many ways of keeping in

With Everest 2010 you would know that things have changed drastically. In earlier times, people would just vanish for a month or two once they got up to Everest and remain inaccessible for a coulee of months. Now people back home get daily and perhaps even hourly reports though Twitter and Facebook. This is also true for people who have taken to sat phones and who depend on it for dear life. The spread of the internet has made all this possible such that even when you are in faraway Nepal, you can be connected with family and friends from round the globe.
